[C25K] I Ran TWO Miles!!!!!

February 3, 2010 | by Whitney Claire | C25K, Fitness | 6 Comments

I feel…. FANTASTIC!

After some serious thinking about this C25K program I got really scared that if I started on March 1st I was nearly positive that I’d fail… quit… or otherwise completely flop. So, I decided the best thing to do is start early; it’s now or never. So, if not March 1st I wanted to start on February 1st. The only problem was, by the time I got to the gym it was closed.

So I got more and more anxious. I’ve never really run a day in my life. I was always the last kid on the track when we had to do the mile for the Presidential Fitness Test. And by last kid on the track, I don’t mean that I got to watch the other kids play Four Square… I mean that I was the last kid on the track and everyone else had already gone back in to class and it was just me and the gym teacher telling me to pick it up. But my exercise-induced asthma always flared up when I tried to run. Running a mile has always seemed like an incredible feat.

Tonight I ran TWO miles

Yes folks, that’s right… yours truly ran not one, but two miles! And I feel fantastic. After 17 minutes one mile had passed and then before I knew it, two miles… TWO miles!

I am so psyched after Week 1, Day 1 that I cannot wait until my next run. I cannot believe that I feel so free. I completed tonight’s workout in my Vibram Five Finger Sprints, and my feet felt fantastic. However, the Vibrams are so awesome that they really require a whole post all to themselves, so watch for that soon!!

Yea!!! Great job!! Plenty of tweeps I’m seeing using that same program, so you should have lots of company and encouragement to keep it up.

This post made me want to cry – passing a mile marker (literally and figuratively) evokes such feelings of pride and accomplishment – and I am so proud of you! Good for you for starting early – you can start working on a 10K after you finish this journey!

Well that makes two of us Melissa because I almost started to cry when I hit that 1 mile at 17 minutes!! And then again when I was writing this post!

I’m going all the way now…After 5K I’m head out for 10K… after 10K half marathon… and then, just maybe I can actually run a marathon. I hope maybe we can run one together… I think that would be the pinnacle of my running experience.

I simply cannot WAIT to go run again!!! I’m so psyched. And, seriously, I cannot thank you enough for the encouragement and the inspiration you have given to me. It’s an amazing gift… one that has touched me very deeply.

That would be wonderful! And not just maybe – you CAN run a marathon, and you will! And I’d be thrilled to run one with you!

P.S. I’m planning to run the Marine Corps Marathon this year – that’s somewhat near you, right? Probably too early for you to join – but maybe we can do it next year!

Melissa – that would be great fun! But I think you’re right… this year might be too soon. Let me get a 5K and maybe a 10K under my belt before I tackle a marathon!! We’ll look at shooting for 2011! :)
